THE RITES OF PASSAGE INSTITUTE

WE ARE WORKING TO CREATE A WORLD WHERE ALL PEOPLE AND COMMUNITIES THRIVE.

Tuesday August 14th

We use an educational model based on The Rite of Passage Framework to help individuals strengthen their sense of self, learn critical life skills, discover their potential and create a healthy vision for the future. We are working to create a world where all people and communities thrive. For thousands of years, Indigenous and traditional communities recognised the importance of supporting individuals to transition safely from one stage of life to another through Rites of Passage.Marking these transitions were seen as fundamental in the growth, connectedness and health of an individual and community. In modern society, the need for programs that help equip young people with the confidence and tools to tackle the adventure and challenges that lie ahead are more critical than ever.

2017 YOUNG AUSTRALIAN OF THE YEAR FOR VICTORIA

Wednesday August 15th

Since coming out in 2012, Jason has become a national figurehead on combatting homophobia in sport and highlighting the damaging impact of homophobia on the mental health and wellbeing of the LGBTI community. This leadership has seen Jason take up ambassadorial roles at beyondblue and the Safe Schools Coalition, sharing his story of coming out with thousands of people in schools, workplaces and sporting clubs. Jason’s advocacy was the driving force behind the AFL’s first Pride Game played between St Kilda and Sydney in Round 21 of the 2016 Premiership season. The match was the first of its kind for a professional sporting competition in the world.
